Happy New Year to all District 6150 Rotarians.  My hope is that each of you and each of your clubs have a successful year.  That success may be to grow your business or get ready to retire or to retire and continue to have a great year.

DISTRICT GRANTS UPDATE

Rotary International has pulled two of our clubs grants and requested additional information in order to approve those grants.  Under the RI requirements, all club grants must be approved before any clubs get their grant funds.  As soon as that process is completed, you will receive half of your grant with the second half funded when you send in your final report.  A special thanks to the grant committee and especially PDG Bob Warner, PDG Diana Holmes, and Gene Wing, each deeply involved in completing the grant process.

MEMBERSHIP

Half of our 2011-2012 Rotary year is complete and our clubs continue to be successful in their efforts to help those less fortunate than we are both on the international front and locally.  We have a few clubs that are struggling with membership and I say to them, times are difficult in our nation and in the world so it is a sign of the times that some clubs might be losing members because of lost jobs and a very tight economy.  However, we have made adjustments in the past and we will adjust to these difficult times.  Do not despair; things will get better as we continue to move our clubs forward.

All of our club leaders realize that in order to be successful you must continue to concentrate on increasing membership.  This will take a special effort on each Rotarian’s part to go ahead and ask that person that you have been thinking about inviting to Rotary.  We can increase our membership by continuing to make our club meetings productive and enjoyable.  As we welcome new members, make sure that our club’s schedule and activities are friendly to potential young Rotarians who have families.  Involve these new members in club activities and truly make them part of our family of Rotary.

During the first six months of the 2011-2012 Rotary year our District 6150 clubs increased their membership by 142 new Rotarians.  However, during that same time we lost 105 members for various reasons.  We must do a better job of retaining members.

Don’t forget to call your Assistant Governor to help you with increasing membership and with retaining members.  They are one of your nearest sources for club improvement and club assistance.

A quote from the Rotary magazine said, “If you want to get things done in your town or city, join the local Rotary Club.”  Statistics have shown that if you want to employ the best person for a new job, hire the guy who is a Rotarian.  That person is committed to making their community and the world a better place.  They are hard working people who have a vision in life and want the best possible opportunities for themselves, their family, their community, and the world. read more

CLUB ATTENDANCE RECORDS

Club officers should review their club’s attendance records at least every quarter to determine the members that are continually absent.  A simple phone call of encouragement can re-energize a struggling member to return to Rotary.  As Rotarians, we must be positive about our club’s potential activities.  We must be alert to assist members who have ideas they think will improve our club’s projects and overall functions.  Club leaders should make an effort to determine why members are leaving their club.  As we find out these reasons and work to correct them, we will be able to keep members from becoming disengaged with Rotary.

DISTRICT LEADERSHIP ACADEMY

Our District Leadership Academy will hold its third seminar on January 6 and 7 at Harding University n Searcy.  Dean Jerry Smith and staff continue to train our club, district, and community future leaders.
