| | | Dear Rotarian,
As of today, I have visited 31 of our district’s 41 clubs. What a joy to see the work that each of you are doing in your clubs.
This year we will work toward a net 200 new members and 250 new or additional Paul Harris Fellows. We also have many projects and grants being developed. Remember, your District Grant must be in Rotarian Gene Wing’s office by September 30, 2011.
Speaking of membership, if you do not feel comfortable explaining Rotary to others, here is your solution. Ask a friend or business associate to go to Rotary and offer a free meal. If they agree to attend, call your club membership chair and tell them that you are bringing a guest to Rotary. The membership chair can quickly and simply explain Rotary to your guest. Now isn’t that simple?
Every Rotarian is on their club’s membership committee. Remember, Rotary is the only service organization where membership is by invitation only. Your responsibility as a Rotarian is to ASK someone to attend your Rotary club meeting. We can’t recruit members if we don’t get them to a club meeting.
GENERAL LIABILITY, D & 0 AND EPL INSURANCE COVERAGE
Important information regarding the general liability (GL) insurance coverage and directors & officers/employment practices liability (D&O/EPL) insurance coverage provided to your Rotary club/district through the U.S. Rotary Club and District Liability Insurance Program (Program) is available online.
Items available include: Visit the District web site, "Running a Club" page and click on "Liability Insurance" to learn more.
THE OBJECT OF ROTARY
The object of Rotary is to encourage and foster the idea of service as a basis of worthy enterprise and, in particular, to encourage and foster:
- First: The development of friendship as an opportunity for service;
- Second: High ethical standards in business and professions; the recognition of the worthiness of all useful occupations; and the dignifying of each Rotarian’s occupation as an opportunity to serve society;
- Third: The application of the ideal of service in each Rotarian’s personal, business, and community life;
- Fourth: The advancement of international understanding, goodwill, and peace through a world fellowship of business and professional persons united in the ideal of service.
THE 4-WAY TEST
For six decades, Rotarians have been using the 4-Way Test as a practical yardstick in their business, community, and personal affairs. The 4-Way Test, you will note, does not provide answers. It asks questions which the user must answer. One of the world’s most widely printed and quoted statements was created in 1932 by Rotarian Herbert J. Taylor when he was asked to take charge of a company that was facing bankruptcy. In 1943, Rotary International adopted the 4-Way Test.
