Owen Lusk, District Governor  2010-11 Volume 2, Issue 4
Governor's Weekly Briefing August 27, 2010
This is the ninth a series of Weekly Briefings shared with all Rotary Club members in District 6150 as we focus this year on Building Communities and Bridging Continents.

Dear Rotarian,

Lacy and Owen Lusk
Official visits are ongoing!  What great visits I have had with the many clubs that I have visited.  I have had the opportunity to visit Batesville, Brinkley and Jonesboro Metro and Pocahontas this past week.  Looking forward to visiting with Little Rock Midtown and Searcy early next week.

Share Your Club's Activities!

Is your club doing something exciting?  Do you have a special project you want to share with the district?  Share your excitement, share the information, let the District know what’s happening in your club.

The Rotary Club of Fairfield Bay is hosting “A Night at the Races” at Indian Hills Country Club on October 14, 2010, a fundraiser for their Literacy Program.  Contact Terry Lee for more information or to purchase tickets.

What else is going on?  Share your club’s activities!  I hear a lot of activities and projects being discussed during my travels, share those with the District.  We can learn from each other and help and support each other if we know what’s happening.

Email your information to sharonkmccarroll@yahoo.com
.  Also be sure to post important dates, events and information on the District and Club Database (DaCdb) calendar. Club fund raisers automatically appear on the District calendar as well as all club calendars.  If you need help posting calendar events, contact District Communications Officer, Sam Hummelstein.   Have you logged onto the DaCdb this week?  Stay informed.  Log on at www.Rotary6150.org

The 2011 Rotary International Convention will be held in New Orleans May 21-25, 2011!  How great is it that the Convention will be held almost in our very own back yard.  Make plans now to attend.  It will be an experience that you will always remember!  Contact PDG Bob Warner for information on the district's hotel room block.

Important Tax Information For Your Club

IRSAll small nonprofit organizations are required to file tax returns, this includes Rotary Clubs.  The IRS is offering a One-time Special Filing Relief Program for us to meet this requirement; deadline is October 15, 2010.  Each club should review the attached information to see if your club is at risk of losing your tax-exempt status and take appropriate steps to meet these requirements.

The Rotarian Recap

The Rotarian Magazine CoverInteresting articles in The Rotarian this month.  Did you read the article about Polio?  So many people still affected by the lasting damage from the disease.  Post Polio Syndrome continues to plague many.  This just reinforces the need to support the End Polio Now campaign.   What is your club doing to support this project?

Another interesting article was the one about the Fairway Test.  Guinn Massey will appreciate this one!  Ethics….exactly when is the “letter of the law” really the law?  When is it ok to look the other way?  Is it ok to take “do overs”?

I hope you have time to browse through The Rotarian, there are some very good articles as well as good information.

You can find the September issue online here.

A thought to share:
