Governor's Weekly BriefingJuly 6, 2010

This is the first in series of Weekly Briefings that will be shared with all members of District 6150 as we focus this year on Building Communities and Bridging Continents.

Dear Rotarian,

Lacy and Owen Lusk
Lacy & Owen Lusk
Lacy and I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of you for your very warm welcome.  Many thanks to those of you who attended the installation banquet last week.  It was really special to have so many of you there.  The enthusiasm, fellowship, eagerness and excitement that have already been shown to us will be the forces that drive this district to success this year.  We are so excited to be serving each club and each of you this year as your governor.

I encourage you to visit the website at www.rotary6150.org to stay up to date on so many activities that are occurring throughout the world of Rotary and throughout the district.

THE YEAR AHEAD
Think big, seek best practices, lead boldly

As Rotary leaders embark on the 2010-11 year to continue the work of Building Communities – Bridging Continents, they can look to RI President Ray Klinginsmith for support to make Rotary more effective and enjoyable for all.

All Rotarians should seek out best practices to build upon what works, Klinginsmith adds. “What I’m trying to do is create a culture of innovation where we can take a fresh look at everything we do, to see whether or not it’s a best practice or just a traditional practice. If we are already doing it in the best way, I don’t want to disturb it. But if we can find a better way to do it, then we need to start some new traditions.”

All Rotarians, Ambassadorial Scholars and Youth Exchange Students past and present, are invited.  Register for the luncheon online here.

Future Vision pilot is launched

District 6150 is pleased to be a part of the Future of Rotary by participating with The Future Vision pilot, a three-year test of The Rotary Foundation's new, streamlined grant structure, is underway.  The pilot officially began 1 July, with 100 pilot districts that were selected from among hundreds of applicants in June 2009. The pilot districts will spend the next three years testing and helping to refine the Foundation's new grant model before all districts begin to participate in July 2013.   The deadline for submitting your grant application is September 15, 2010.

  • Provide needed attention to weak or struggling clubs.
  • Motivate Rotarians to participate in service activities.
  • Recognize the outstanding contributions of Rotarians in the district.

To prepare for the official visit, the club president should:

A thought to share:

"The Rotary way works! But Rotary has no patent on it, for it is but the Golden Rule in action. Any person, any nation, can apply it by displacing negative hatred and fear with goodwill based upon understanding. Peace among nations is not impossible of attainment; they can find peace if they will."

~~~ Paul P. Harris, 1946
