Presidents-elect Training Seminar
In March, more than 33,000 club presidents-elect will attend their district or multidistrict presidents-elect training seminar (PETS). During the seminar, they'll work on club goals for the year using the Planning Guide for Effective Rotary Clubs, available as a Word document that can be easily completed, updated, and e-mailed to fellow club members and district leaders. To help prepare for the meeting, encourage club presidents to review the discussion questions in the Club President's Manual (222) and bring their manuals to PETS if they receive them beforehand.

The Club Leadership Plan is featured throughout PETS. Each president-elect should receive a copy of the Club Leadership Plan (245), a publication that explains the plan and how clubs should implement it. Learn more on the Club Leadership Plan resource page.
District Assembly

In April and May, club presidents-elect and incoming club leadership teams will attend the district assembly. This event helps Rotary club leaders, including secretaries, treasurers, and committee chairs, to develop their leadership skills and to meet the district leadership team who will be supporting their efforts to lead an effective club throughout the year.

Participants are encouraged to read the appropriate manual before the meeting so they arrive prepared to discuss their duties and goals for the coming year. Manuals in the Club Officers' Kit (225), which was revised this Rotary year, include:

At the assembly, incoming club leadership teams should further develop their annual goals using the Planning Guide for Effective Rotary Clubs. Before the meeting, club presidents, secretaries, and committee chairs should review the discussion questions in their manuals so they can think about their responses and be ready to participate.

International Assembly
District governors-elect attended the International Assembly in San Diego, California, USA, 18-24 January. Watch a video of President-elect Ray Klinginsmith announcing the RI theme for the coming year, and get ready for 2010-11 by downloading speeches, news articles, and photos.
Your Voice, Your Solution

Your Voice, Your SolutionAttendance has been low, fewer members are participating in projects, and donations to The Rotary Foundation have fallen. You're worried about your club's future. What do you do? Add your solution.

Last month, many of you contributed your solutions to the problem of how to convince a member to attend the district conference. Read your colleagues' suggestions.

Rotary International's online problem-solving forum gives Rotarians the opportunity to exchange solutions and ideas. At the end of the month, you and your fellow Rotarians will have generated a collection of best practices that can be used by club presidents for years to come.

Training Tip
lightbulb
You have just been asked to lead a 60-minute session for your upcoming district assembly. The session guide, from the District Assembly Leaders' Guide (828), is on the role and responsibilities of club secretaries. Use these tips to take advantage of the session guide and make sure you're prepared:
  • Review the session guide and the materials you will need. Does the session refer to worksheets for activities, flip charts for brainstorming, or PowerPoint slides?
  • Make a one-page summary of the session that highlights the main points.
  • Practice the session in advance. This will help you figure out the timing and flow of the session and how you'll run the activities.
  • Use your one-page summary during the session as a quick reference rather than reading from the session guide.
With all the preparation you've done, you'll be a star trainer!
