Travel the roads with DG Debbie

RI President 2009-10, John Kenney and DG 2009-10 Debbie BrinkleyThe Road Not Traveled - Travel the Roads of District 6150 with Governor Debbie

I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I--
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference

I will retire my travels at this point in the road. Thanks to each of the Rotarians in District 6150 as you welcomed and encouraged me along the way. We have a strong District that does much in the lives of others. I am proud to be a Rotarian from this District. I had a great year serving as your Governor.

DG Owen and the Rotary Club of Paragould put on a great celebration and fun filled evening as PRID Carl Rosenbaum assisted PDG Bob Warner with the installation. They even asked Lacy to join in. Happy Anniversary Paragould. Ninety years is a long time to be a club. There claim to fame appears to be 2 PDGs and now a DG. Thanks to H.T. Carolyn, Jake and PDG Greg for getting Owen's year started off in a great way!

My last journey was to Paragould to hand my duties off to Owen. Details to follow.

My trip to DeWitt yesterday was great fun. This club knows how to enjoy visiting and laughing. I am not sure how they had time to eat. The meal was topped off with home made ice cream! The club has had a good year.

In the past few weeks,I have been to North Little Rock Riverside, Sherwood, Jonesboro University and Heber Springs to deliver the club of the year banners. I accompanied Assistant Governor of the year, Sharon Gruber to the Cabot Club to deliver the award for "Best Club Bulletin." It is truly a delight to visit one last time as Governor. Last week I had the priviledge of meeting with the Council of Governors at the Searcy Country Club. We had thirteen people in attendance. Oh my, there are many opinions when you get that many PDGs in one place. Diversity makes us strong, and we accomplished much. Thanks to all who were able to come. This week, I will be at Little Rock Midtown, Hughes, Sherwood Hawaiian themed end of the year banquet, DeWitt, and Maumelle.

This is a great meeting that will change the face of your club. Assist your President Elect as he or she plans for next year. Preparation now helps assure a successful year.

I have had an amazing weekend with the South Central Rotary Youth Exchange team in Tulsa. Last night was a great glimpse into Rotary International! My dinner partners; on my right, Justine from France, on my left, a lovely young lady from Belgium. The conversation was lively to say the least. What a tremendous program! Youth Exchange ROCKS! A big thank you to Don, Susan, Vince, Bob, Mary Ellen, and more from District 6150 who were in attendance.

Happy Birthday Rotary!!! I am proud to be a Rotarian! Thank you to all of the Rotarians before me that made this a wonderful organization that has withstood the sands of time. I am also grateful to that women are welcome in Rotary! There are currently 50 women Governors around the world. Hooray for Rotary and again, Happy Birthday!!

I have been on the road again.... First stop was in Searcy for DGE Owen's DTTS. Phyl was the speaker for the event. Great job Phyl!!! I was asked where I had been hiding him. Well, I can't let him upstage me too much, after all as PDG Bob would say, "I am the Governor." Speaking of travel and PDG Bob, he has just returnded from a Polio NID in India. I can't wait to hear about his experiences.
From Searcy, we went to Jonesboro to see for myself what this Sportshow was all about. WoW and Double WoW! What a tremendous effort and great show. President Thom gave Phyl and me the grand tour, then we meandered through the exhibits and vendor booths on our own. We spent way too much money, but had a great time. Rotarians everywhere.PDGs, current District leadership, Jonesboro members, all working hard to make this event successful. This is their only fundraiser! Put it on your calendar for next year. Before leaving town on Sunday, we had to go back by the Sportshow for another purchase or two. We were then off to Craighead Forest Park. Watch the video on the website to see how much I enjoyed this stop. (I can't include a link here but copy and paste the following link into your browser's address bar to view the video.)

Rain and snow on the way home. Tired, but what a fun weekend!!! Thank you Rotarians for all that you do.

The year is flying by. You will be receiving a reminder about our upcoming District Conference in NLR at the Wyndaham, April 29- May 1. DGE Owen is in San Diego as I write. His phone call this morning was lots of fun. He could hardly talk, he was so excited. He indicated that I could not believe what he is experiencing! I did not say, "I told you so." PDG Bob was out there for Future Vision training and snapped a shot of the excited DGE. I cannot express to you all the delight and honor to serve as District Governor. Thank you for giving me this awesome experience.

Wow! It is December....Family of Rotary Month. Family is indeed involved if you are a Rotarian. Projects, parties, meetings, illness....we are one big family, worldwide. I love being a Rotarian and having a huge family. Family from my club, district, zone, and internationally. I indeed feel blessed.

#27: by Debbie Brinkley on 11.18.2009 @ 06:32pm CST

On the road indeed. I traveled with Phyl last week to his annual Counselor's Conference, then this week to Hot Springs for a Parent Educator Conference. We arrived home shortly after noon today. I repacked (sort of) and headed for Jonesboro. There are several people that I need to meet with and they seem to be in this part of the world. So....if you need to meet with me.... you know where to find me.

It is time to get pledges ready for the Polio Plus Fund Raiser on January 30th. Watch the website for the ability to give on line. However your club was planning to raise funds, follow through and be ready to pledge. Thanks so much for your committment to finishing the job of a Polio Free World.

#25: by Debbie Brinkley on 11.07.2009 @ 06:58pm CST

The Rotary road today led to Searcy. I was so pleased with the quality of young adults who applied to be team members in our Group Study Exchange to District 2090 to (Italy/Albania). If the applicants today are a representation of the young professionals in the work place, we are indeed in good hands. What a hard decision! Can we take two teams? After much deliberation, a decision was made. Andee is going to have a strong team. I expect each of these team members to come back and become actively involved in local Rotary Clubs.

#24: by Debbie Brinkley on 11.06.2009 @ 06:10pm CST

I hope each of you are busy with your club projects. Don't forget about submitting a grant. The form on the website states that the deadline is October 31, 2008. The date has been extended to November 30, 2009. Simply change the date on the form. I have some awards to present for PDG Ray, so watch for me! I might show up at one of your meetings.

#23: by Debbie Brinkley on 10.21.2009 @ 11:25am CDT

I hope each of you can read my secret code at the end of the last comment. If not, it says that "Mistakes are wonderful opportunities to learn."

#22: by Debbie Brinkley on 10.21.2009 @ 11:22am CDT

I caught the sunrise on camera this morning at the Rotary Club of Sherwood's Ethics Breakfast. It has been a while since I have been awake at that time of day. Well worth the effort. What a tremendous response to President John Kenny's challenge to bring Vocational Service and thus "Ethics in the work place," to the forefront. Great community leaders as examples.kbnAef

My official visits are complete. I will now have time to reflect and will go back and add special memories to my comments. Each club is so unique. Collectively, the clubs in District 6150 are doing great things. I am proud to serve as Governor in this District. Much is being done for the good of our communities and throughout the world.

Nice trip to Clinton with DG Debbie yesterday as she completed her last Official Visit. It was great to visit with all the new, excited, & involved Rotarians in the Clinton area. They have a great Club in the making!

#18: by Debbie Brinkley on 09.30.2009 @ 10:10pm CDT

My travels this week have taken me to Walnut Ridge to the new Lawrence County Club, then across to Helena for a good meeting. On the way home I stopped to visit with a college friend. Could that have possibly been 40 years ago? The Sales Office from the Wyndham called, needing a signature on the new contract after changes had been made for the District Conference. Plan now to attend! You are in for some surprises.

#17: by Debbie Brinkley on 09.26.2009 @ 08:25pm CDT

It has been a busy day for Rotarians in Pulaski County and therefore the Governor. I couldn't miss out on the fun. "Paws for a Cause" in Maumelle, then the Camp Aldersgate Annual Fish Fry. Both were great events with a good turn out. I enjoyed seeing and talking to many of you. PDGs John and Joe and their wives, President Bo, PP Ed, AG Gary, AG Sharon....

#16: by Debbie Brinkley on 09.23.2009 @ 08:27am CDT

I am on the road again, to Marked Tree then home before the day comes to an end. One thing that has really been special is pledging allegience to the flag every day and sometimes twice in one day. I try not to ever take it for granted. Freedom.....
Thanks to the men and women who are serving for our country in the Armed Forces.I had a nice Marine help me look for my lost cell phone on Monday. I realized the next morning that there were twenty or so that stayed in this hotel Monday night. They came all the way from Virginia to Northeast ARto do some type of training. I was glad that I had an opportunity to say Thank You!

#15: by Debbie Brinkley on 09.23.2009 @ 08:19am CDT

You are right Mark. It was your club. I had a great visit in Batesville and am so glad that you are ok. Your club is on track for a good year. It was fun to meet Mr. Doyle Rogers. He seemed to enjoy telling me about his work in Maumelle. What a great Rotarian!

#14: by Debbie Brinkley on 09.22.2009 @ 09:35pm CDT

I have to go back and check my notes. Don't want to leave any one out, but I have jumped around, no joke. I will be back soon with more tales from the road. I might even come up with some really good code. Stay tuned!!!!!

#13: by Debbie Brinkley on 09.22.2009 @ 08:13pm CDT

The town is named for my family! Well, I am sure if we look hard enough, the good Colonel is in our family tree somewhere. Charlotte's brother? Greasy Corner....how about it Thom? Rotary History! Original charter framed....great food, home cooking served like at home, too many desserts, a PDG knows the closest route from here to ASU.

#12: by Mark House on 09.21.2009 @ 10:19am CDT

I recognize my club, because I was the one in the hospital. I am feeling great now!!

#11: by Debbie Brinkley on 09.18.2009 @ 10:32pm CDT

I have many tales to tell as I have traveled. Stay with me and watch for clues that I have been to your club. I have wondered about the "shorts contest." Which man had the nicest legs? Where did I have to use my step stool? I sure enjoyed helping give the students dictionaries. I had home cooking, I am so happy that the President that missed my visit because of being admitted to the hospital is well and back at the helm of his club. The PE did a great job. Watch for the police in Allport..... more later. Any one recognize their club?

#10: by Debbie Brinkley on 09.04.2009 @ 02:38pm CDT

I understand Guinn. I too will be at the Rep, so maybe since it involves several clubs, we will still think we are attending a District Event.

#9: by GUINN MASSEY on 09.03.2009 @ 05:45pm CDT

Since next Monday is a holiday, I more than likely wont think about it actually being Monday. But on Tuesday night, which will seem like Monday, I will be at the "Rotary Night at the Rep" and I will probably tell my wife that it seems like I need to travel somewhere this evening. It may take me a few days to realize I am not going to the "next District Seminar."

#8: by Debbie Brinkley on 08.31.2009 @ 10:26pm CDT

He is for sure a groupie! He was at the District Seminar tonight. Oh, well, CE is certainly learning a lot about Rotary. Great group in Wynne. Sixty one was the final count. Thanks Rotarians of District 6150 for your attendance at all of the Seminars. The Rotary Club of Hughes had 6 members in attendance tonight. Way to go Hughes!!! A big THANK YOU to Jerry Smith, Bob Warner, Guinn Massey, Don Peterson, Susan Chan and Vince Guest for facilitating the sessions. What will we do next Monday night? Call me if you are too bored.

#7: by Debbie Brinkley on 08.30.2009 @ 09:38pm CDT

I will be off to Marianna in the morning and then back to Wynne for the last of our District Seminars. The next big event is the District Golf Tournament in Jonesboro at Sage Meadows on September 14th. We only have 14 Clubs represented at this time. Where are the rest of you golfers or wanna be's? Please get your registrations in. The money raised goes to the Foundation.

#6: by Debbie Brinkley on 08.27.2009 @ 09:55pm CDT

I was late this morning. Slow trucks, small towns, detour, but lemonade a waiting. Good food, great fellowship, and press from three newspapers! Way to go Fonda. No one warned me that I might have groupies! There is a certain President that keeps showing up....Birmingham, England talking some kind of "secret handshake?" Jerry, do you know anything about that? This same President was in Wynne yesterday.....lunch with buddies at the same restaurant. I won't tell you his name, but his initials are C.E. and he is from WM. He did bring Glo with him to England.

#5: by Debbie Brinkley on 08.27.2009 @ 08:54am CDT

#4: by Debbie Brinkley on 08.16.2009 @ 11:36am CDT

I am having a great time! Each club has a different personality, different projects, and fun, fine, Rotarians. Like the roads we travel, some windy, some steep, some straight and narrow, and some four lane. All are good. I am proud of the Rotarians in District 6150. Remember, you are the most important one.

#3: by Debbie Brinkley on 08.15.2009 @ 09:25am CDT

Little Rock Metro? It meets when? 7:00A.M. I had to work at getting there on time, but did make it. Two Interact clubs, The Four Way Test Apple Dumpling Adventure Book,in short - LR Metro ROCKS! At least that is what President Dennis asked me to share.

#2: by Debbie Brinkley on 08.15.2009 @ 09:14am CDT

The next stop on my journey was with the RC of West Little Rock. I found many old friends, some PDGs, and new friends. President Bo has things lined out for a very successful year. PDG Gary Speed, Fred Williams, James Arbuckle..... all District leaders.

#1: by Debbie Brinkley on 08.14.2009 @ 03:43pm CDT

My journey began at the RC of NLR Riverside. They are self proclaimed as small, but mighty! I agree. They are accomplishing much with a small but growing membership.
