Born in Jonesboro, District Governor 2005-06 Marilyn M.Hummelstein is a fifth generation resident of Jonesboro and Craighead County. She is a third generation graduate of Arkansas State University where she received her BSE in 1974.
A member of the Rotary Club of Jonesboro since 1990, Marilyn served as President in 2000-2001. The Rotary Club of Jonesboro was named Club of the Year that year. Other positions she has held include Secretary, Vice-President, President-Elect and serving as chairman of several committees.
Marilyn served as Rotary District 6150 Interact Committee Chairman (92-93) , District RYLA Chairman (93-94 & 94-95) and Camp Director of the Girls RYLA Camps in 1994 & 1995. In 2002, she served as District Conference Chairman. Marilyn was named Rotarian of the Year in 1994. In 2002, Marilyn received this distinction a second time along with her co-recipient and husband, Sam. She served as a Polio Eradication Area Coordinator (02-03). A multiple Paul Harris Fellow and Benefactor, Marilyn served as an Assistant Governor (03-04).
Marilyn has attended five Rotary International Conventions - (Buenos Aires, Argentina-2000, San Antonio, TX - 2001, Barcelona, Spain – 2002, Brisbane, Australia – 2003 and Chicago - 2005).
She has been active in the Jonesboro community through United Way where she has served as Campaign Chair, Board President (two terms) and Allocations Committee Chairman. She is former Chairman of the Jonesboro Regional Chamber of Commerce board of directors. She serves on the Craighead County Community Foundation Board, the Jonesboro Economic Development Corporation board, St. Bernards Women's Advisory Council and the Craighead County Public Facilities Board. In addition, she serves as Chair of the Arkansas State University Foundation Board and is on the ASU College of Business Executive Advisory Council. Marilyn served as National President of the National Association of Junior Auxiliaries 1993-94.
Marilyn was Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of Hummelstein Iron & Metal, Inc. for 32 years. On April 1, 2006 she accepted the position of President and CEO of the St. Bernards Development Foundation, Inc. in Jonesboro. Marilyn is active in the Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries, Inc. headquartered in Washington, D.C. In June, 2002 she and Sam were recognized for outstanding service to the recycling industry.
She has been married to Sam Hummelstein for 33 years. Sam, also a member of the Rotary Club of Jonesboro, was a non-Rotarian GSE team member in 1987 (Brazil). He is club President-elect and serves as District Webmaster & provides district clubs with RI-CAS support. Sam is also a multiple Paul Harris Fellow and Benefactor.
Marilyn enjoys cooking, scuba diving, gardening, reading and knitting. |
