Debbie Brinkley, District Governor 2009-10

DG 2009-10 Debbie and Phyl Brinkley
Debbie & Phyl Brinkley
As an educator, trainer, public speaker and mother, Debbie has over 30 years experience working with families and children in schools, churches and businesses.  She has worked as a   Speech and Language Pathologist, tutor, Early Childhood Program intake coordinator, Preschool Director, Executive Director and Vice President of a DDTCS/CHMS facility. She earned a B.A. from Ouachita Baptist University and has done graduate work at the University of Arkansas. She is certified in Speech and Language Pathology, Early Childhood and Regular Classroom K-6.

Debbie’s outstanding interpersonal skills have served her well in problem solving, public relation opportunities, dealing with staff issues, facilitating parent meetings, and leading professional organizations. She has served the Rotary Club of Maumelle in several capacities including Vocational Chair, Board Member and President, from November 2003 to June 2005. At the District level she has served as an Assistant Governor, Assistant Governor Coordinator, Conference Co-Chair, District Membership Co-Chair, Trainer, Secretary for the Mid America PETS Board, and assisted with Registration for the Zone Success Seminar.

Debbie is a trained facilitator for Developing Capable People (DCP) and a certified leader for parenting workshops. She has facilitated numerous DCP workshops as well as used these materials while conducting in-service training for educators. A popular speaker, her positive approach to working with families and educators centers on prevention. Certified in grant writing since 2003, she recently has become a member of the American Writers and Artists Institute as a copywriter and resume writer.

Since being certified as a facilitator of the DCP workshops, Debbie has coordinated and or facilitated numerous workshops involving approximately 500 parents, educators, and professionals. The three perceptions and four skills that are the backbone of the workshop are especially meaningful because of the changes that were seen in the lives of her children, as well as changes in others who have received the training.

Using the television production facilities at the Jones Center for Families in Springdale, Debbie developed and helped produce a television series called “Building Stronger Families,” consisting of twelve programs. Built around a talk and discussion format, several programs featured H. Stephen Glenn, the author of the Developing Capable People materials, while others were panel discussions, discussions with participants of the DCP workshops and a live call-in show. The series aired weekly on the Jones Television Network.

Debbie is currently self-employed as a consultant and Marketing Director for Developing Capable Mentors. She is also the co-author with her husband of The Family Meeting Notebook.

She and Phyl have been married since 1970 and have a daughter working for Young Life International in London, England and a son, daughter-in-law and two granddaughters who live in Murfreesboro. Debbie’s hobbies include reading and photography.
