Chesapeake Energy was a sponsor for the Rotary Club of Cleburne County's Scholarship Golf Tournament last year. Because of this partnership, Chesapeake Energy proposed a $50,000 joint scholarship project with the Rotary Clubs of District 6150.
The $1000 scholarships are for students attending ASU Heber Springs and ASU Searcy. The recipients are required to take the Petroleum Technology Course (10 credit hours). The Chesapeake objective is to assist in the development of a local workforce with knowledge of the basics of the gas industry.
In January a decision was made to proceed with 10 scholarships ($10,000) this first year (each at $1000) with five awarded to students attending each of the two ASU locations. This scholarship would cover most of the cost for tuition, books and supplies for this 10 credit hour course. To be eligible applicants must have a high school diploma or GED however the applicants are not limited to current year high school graduates. This allows people currently in the workforce to add to their skills and employment opportunities.
This training would give the recipient a chance to further their education and the opportunity to interview for employment with Chesapeake Energy.
Since this is a new program, the application just became available. If this effort is successful, Chesapeake is committed to 50 scholarships next year.
