GSE team in FranceNovember is Rotary Foundation Month, a time when we focus on he Foundation that supports the programs that are making a difference in people's lives around the world. Perhaps one of the best-known programs that our Foundation dollars support is Group Study Exchange. Our GSE team is in France, experiencing life in the Loire Valley with Rotarian families as their hosts. To see what this team, led by Steve Maxwell, is learning, click here.

Get with the program

Having trouble filling that open slot in your program calendar?
In the true spirit of the theme Rotary Shares," Guy Patteson of the Jonesboro Rotary Club is coming to the rescue of a program committee "stuck" for an idea.

"The challenge of booking "good" programs from week to week can be a real struggle," said Guy Patteson, chairman of the District 6150 Program Exchange.

"As a past multi-year Program Committee chairman, I know what you're faced with from week to week. This new Rotary District 6150 resource hopes to put you in touch with available and willing speakers," Patteson said.

The goal of this Program Exchange is to identify, list, and share contact and booking information for interesting, relevant club programs and speakers who are eager, willing, and available to present a program to your club.

"This project is designed to help you attain a balance between relevant, informative, entertaining, humorous, and controversial programs - all in an effort to help keep your membership enthused and excited about attending weekly meetings."

A program data dase is under construction at District6150.org.
Many speakers, organizations, agencies, and special events spokespeople are anxious to take their "Dog & Pony Show" on the road.  You don't have to have a large club in order to book many programs. For immediate information or to "get on the list" contact: Guy Patteson, Rotary Club of Jonesboro, guypat@swbell.net , or cell phone - 870-926-6473.

Disaster workshop - December 14-15

Trapped by Katrina
The years 2004 and 2005 brought the word "disaster" into our consciousness in ways it had seldom been before. It was a year of tsunamis, hurricanes, earthquakes and floods. Past RI Director Bob Stuart observes that "Individual Rotarians and clubs will always reach out with their hearts and hands to their fellow men and women stricken by disaster. "
After the experiences of 2004 and 2005, Bob believes, along with many others, that "...we who are in a position to assist should position our clubs, districts and zones to be able to respond and assist when disaster strikes.

On behalf of RI Directors Tom Branum, Sr., Don Mebus, and Barry Rassin, Bob Stuart is organizing the Second North American Rotary Emergency Disaster Initiative Workshop on Dec. 14-15, 2007 in Nashville, TN.

Moving forward together

As your 2007-2008 District Governor I can truly say that the opportunity to serve continues to be a pleasure. I look forward to the next eight months as we continue to "Share Rotary" together.

The 2007-2008 Official Visit Schedule is near completion. This benchmark has caused me to reflect on the many visits. Each club's enthusiasm and dedication for Rotary's many opportunities has been remarkable. Every club in our district contributes much in time, talent, money and compassion.

Although many of our past governors have described to me the unique and valuable character of our 39 clubs, these attributes have been best understood through my personal visits to each club. Every club has "put their best foot forward." We have enjoyed meeting our fellow Rotarians. The hospitality, the preparation and the genuine friendship extended by everyone are very special.

We have always known the value of Rotary, but to experience this in our own back yard has made us very proud.  Each club plays an incredibly important role in service to their local community. Most of our clubs have helped in international service. All are dedicated to growth and have made membership a top priority.

The support for our Rotary Foundation continues to flourish. Today the dream of having "Every Rotarian Every Year" in District 6150 contribute $100 is closer to a reality.

I have learned that no matter how small or large a club, every club matters because lives are made better by the good works of our dedicated members. Our true strength is in the individual efforts that we make to improve our Rotary Clubs. This is done through fellowship, growth, funding and service. Each person we help makes it all worthwhile.

Thank you all for the last three months. I look forward to seeing all of you reach your 2007-2008 goals!
