Inbound Group Study Exchange (GSE) Team
Headed by Past District Governor, Steven Croft, the GSE Team from England is nearing the end of their time in District 6150. They’ve seen and done a lot and there’s more to see. Along with our Outbound team headed by Club 99’er Jim Connor, District Conference this year was enhanced by their presentations and fellowship during and after the conference.
Sam and I had the added pleasure of spending Sunday afternoon with the inbound GSE team sailing Greers Ferry Lake on PDG Gary Speed’s sail boat.
I’ll have a complete report of the District Conference along with the photos in the May issue of the Governor’s eLetter.
A few photos of the team during their time in D6150.

What's a GSE trip to D6150 without a visit to Graceland!

Why I Am A Rotarian By John Örtengren, Sollentuna-Tureberg Rotary Club, District 2350, Sweden
In 1975 I was invited to become a Rotarian. At that time Rotary was not as well known as it is today. I recognized, nevertheless, that here is an organization that combines multi vocational membership with humanitarian goals and a high ethical standard.
This unique combination of features not only appealed to me but challenged me as well.
As the years went by, these initial impressions were reinforced, generating enthusiasm in what I had been doing in Rotary. It was felt like an inner reward when I was asked to become the district governor in my district (2350 Sweden) twenty years later. I am still very active, taking great pride in being a Rotarian.
Today Rotary is still a multi vocational organization, the only one in the world, that combines vocational service with service to Mankind, regardless of age, sex, race or religion, holding the ethical flag high, always paying attention to high ethical standards in business and professional life.
Is not that a wonderful organization to be a member of?

Heber Springs Club Supporting Water Project in Honduras by Gina Hergett, President, Rotary Club of Heber Springs
The Rotary Club of Heber Springs is supporting a water project for a small remote village in Honduras. The village of Tecuan is located in a mountainous area of northeastern Honduras. Water is available from a nearby mountain seven months of the year. The rest of the year it must be hauled from a river. At this writing, their supply has all but dried up and they will likely have to institute a boil requirement for the river water.
Villagers building a water tank in Honduras.
The total project involves constructing a dam and installing a water line from another mountain in order that they may have clean water year round. It also involves installing tanks and a chlorination system. Engineering and technical oversight will be supplied by an engineer from the Municipality in Puerto Cortes who will charge just for days worked. Line drawings and an a detailed estimate are available. The land and the labor will be provided by the village people. Building material will be hauled up the mountain by horses. The estimated cost for the system is US$15,000.
Mr Bobby Wilson, a friend of a member of the Heber Springs club has been actively involved in helping people in small villages in Honduras for a number of years. He and his wife lived in a small village there for three years and travel back two times a year to coordinate projects with the village people and the local officials. After hearing the presentation and realizing the dire need, the club members decided to support improvements to the current system and to provide further support in the future. Since the number one cause of death in these small villages is from contaminated water, the club feels that this project will directly benefit the lives of many people at a minimal cost.
If other clubs in the district are interested in supporting this International Water project you should call the club president, Gina Herget at 501-250-9902 for further details. Mr Wilson is scheduled to return to Honduras in the near future, but might be able to make a presentation to your club.
