Governor's Column

October 25, 2005

By the time you read this message, almost one third of this Rotary year will be over.

I’ve spent my time visiting all 39 clubs in our district, listening and learning about the incredible amount of service we Rotarians provide to our communities and beyond.

How have you spent your time? Are you actively engaged in the working of your club, making the opportunity to visit a neighboring club, attending one of the outstanding district meetings, suggesting new service opportunities for your club, bringing in new members, supporting The Rotary Foundation, proudly wearing your Rotary pin?

Too often, in many organizations, a small percentage of the members do a majority of work. If you could not answer ‘yes’ to any of the listed suggestions, I challenge you to look for a way to become more involved, and thus become a better, more well informed Rotarian. Just imagine the increased amount of service that could be provided if we all could answer YES to these questions.

For more great ideas to help you improve your club, read the latest issue of The Membership Minute newsletter.

Thank you again for the honor of serving you as your District Governor this year..

Hurricane Relief Efforts in D6150

I am so proud when I think about the time, efforts, money and resources our District 6150 Rotarians are investing to help the areas devastated by the recent hurricanes.  In the spirit of cooperation that you've heard me speak about during my official club visits, Rotarians are banding together with other organizations and individuals to expand their potential to help.

Rotary Club of Little Rock
By PDG Sam Chaffin

The Katrina Taskforce of the RC of Little Rock (99) has recommended a project to help persons of Lacombe, Louisiana rebuild their homes. These homes completely damaged, still wet and covered with mold, must be torn out and left to dry and then rebuilt. Lacombe is a small rural community of Catholic Cajuns who have received little help from FEMA or other government agencies. We will be working with the Mandeville Rotary Club and Cooperative Baptist Fellowship of Arkansas. Needed are 3 to 4 person teams to work three days up to one week or financial sponsorships to support the effort. Contact PDG Sam Chaffin – sam@samchaffin.com

Three Rotary Clubs in Jonesboro
By DGN Bob Warner & Sam Hummelstein

The Rotary Clubs of Jonesboro have now sent five truck loads of supplies and food to Hancock County, MS with two more loads ready to go.  Also, a second visit to the area was conducted by seven Rotarians and two representatives of the City of Jonesboro October 12 - 14 to assess future needs and provide ongoing relief services.  More on this effort including photos can be found by clicking link below.
