District 6150 Foundation Seminar

August 6, 2005 at Harding University, Searcy, Arkansas
By Gary Speed, District Foundation Coordinator

The annual Rotary Foundation Seminar will be held Saturday, August 6, 2005 at Harding University, Searcy, Arkansas.  Registration and refreshments will be open at 8:30 a.m. and the training will begin at 9 a.m. and conclude by 2 p.m.  The only cost will be $10 payable at the door to cover the cost of lunch and beverages.

The Rotary Foundation of Rotary International is “Our Foundation”.  As the charitable vehicle for much of Rotary’s international service activities, the Foundation sponsors our popular and well-known programs for Ambassadorial Scholars, Group Study Exchange and several types of grants, including Matching Grants, Simplified Grants and 3-H Grants.  The Foundation has also been the conduit by which Rotarians around the world have contributed over $500 million to eradicate polio.

Rotarians should be quite proud of the many programs of the Foundation.  In 2004, the first class of graduates completed their studies at the Rotary Centers for International Studies in Peace and Conflict Resolution.  These scholars are now assuming positions of leadership with government agencies, private businesses, charities, church organizations and other non-governmental organizations (NGOs) around the world to quietly influence the course of our world and promote peace.

Club presidents and other club officers, particularly those working with the Foundation programs or helping raise money for the Foundation should be sure to attend this seminar, but all Rotarians are welcome.  Each club should have named a Rotary Foundation Chair to be the contact person for all information about Rotary Foundation activities.  We hope all of the Club Rotary Foundation Chairs will attend.

What is your club goal for Rotary Foundation Annual Programs Fund giving this year?  Is it more than $100 per member?  Do you need ideas in how to reach that goal?  Have you made plans to conduct an Every Rotarian Every Year campaign in November?  If you could use some help, please be sure your club is well represented Aug. 8 in Searcy.  (Remember--Representation by each club is required for the Presidential Citation for 2005-06!)

Thanks for all that you do for Rotary and The Rotary Foundation!
